Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 High Availability Workshop 17 September 2011

Saturday, 17th September 2011, i was attending a great workshop from Microsoft User Group Indonesia Surabaya (MUGI Surabaya). It was about high availability of Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 with Mr. Raymond Engelbert, one of the Microsoft Exchange MVP. It was the first time for me for attending MUGI's workshop. They were very great. They made the workshop cozy and fun.

Mr. Raymond shared many things to me. He taught me what is Microsoft Exchange Server is, What the difference with another products, how to install it and how to make it high available for the user. He was very inspiring people because he shared everything he knows.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 is the solution from Microsoft for business class mail server. It gives great solution for a company that want to have their own mail server with high quality and reliability.

For the High Availability support, Microsoft introduced the concept of the Database Availability Group (DAG). A DAG contains Mailbox servers that become members of the DAG. Once a Mailbox server is a member of a DAG, the Mailbox Databases on that server can be copied to other members of the DAG. When you add a Mailbox server to a DAG, the Failover Clustering Windows role is installed on the server and all required clustering resources are created.

Mr. Raymond has shown me the simulation of Microsoft Exchange's high availability. He used two servers, and he made one of them down. Microsoft Exchange Server automatically changed its connection to the other server and fix the down server. Users won't know anything about the connection changing process of the servers because it was happened very fast. The setting was very user-friendly and that is the power of Microsoft's products until now (Simple and Powerful).

For the details explanation about Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, you can visit Microsoft's Technet site. It will give you complete references about Microsoft Exhange Server 2010.

I'm very satisfied with this workshop and hope there will be more great workshop like this from great IT Company in the world. Special thanks to MUGI Surabaya, Mr. Raymond Engelbert.
